Willi’s Match surpasses $100,000 goal in six days for Chatham-Kent Hospice

A matching-gift campaign for Chatham-Kent Hospice has raised more than its $100,000 goal in just six days.

The donations will be doubled to a combined total of $200,000 thanks to a matching-gift commitment from Willi and Nestor Kirenko, who launched “Willi’s Match” to encourage support for compassionate end-of-life care at the hospice.

Willi’s experience as a hospice resident inspired the couple to champion hospice care so others in Chatham-Kent can receive the same comfort, dignity and compassion. They thanked everyone who donated or shared kind words and stories about their relationship with Willi.

Although the matching-gift milestone has been reached, the couple is now encouraging the community to donate toward the purchase of three new cuddle beds for hospice residents and their loved ones. The beds allow residents to share a bed with the people they love, making it possible for families to hold hands, embrace and be together.

“Reaching the $100,000 matching-gift milestone in just six days is an incredible testament to the generosity of our community and the impact of Willi’s story. We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated and helped make this possible. We invite the community to keep this momentum going by supporting Willi’s Legacy and helping us bring three new cuddle beds to Chatham-Kent Hospice,” said Jay Smith, fundraising manager at the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.
