Chatham-Kent education and training fair to include women in trades panel on Nov. 3

The Education and Training Fair will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the Chatham-Kent John D. Bradley Convention Centre at 565 Richmond St.

The free event brings together colleges, universities, training providers, apprenticeship programs and employment services. It is hosted by the municipality’s CKJobs and Community Attraction and Promotion teams and is open to students, job seekers, people considering a career change and anyone interested in learning new skills. Registration is available at chathamkentjobs.com/event/education-and-training-fair.

Visitors can meet with representatives from colleges, universities and training programs, learn about certificates, diplomas, degrees and apprenticeships, and find out about funding and financial help. They can also learn about in-demand careers and local training, and get advice on career options and the skills needed for different jobs.

“Education and skills development play a critical role in strengthening our workforce and creating opportunities for individuals to succeed,” said Matt Keech, manager of employment and social services. “The Education and Training Fair provides a valuable opportunity for residents to connect directly with organizations that can help them achieve their education and career goals.”

A Women in Trades Panel will run from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., featuring women who have built careers in the skilled trades. They will share their experiences, challenges and advice for people considering the trades.

“I’m honoured to join the Women in Trades panel at the Education and Training Fair,” said panelist Laurin Padolina. “Education and training can create new opportunities and help people grow. Trying something new can be intimidating, but it can also lead to greater confidence, purpose and new possibilities.”

Doors open at 3 p.m. Fireside chats, including information about financial aid, run from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., with another from 6:15 p.m. to 6:35 p.m. The event ends at 7 p.m.
