Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services issued a memo regarding student transportation during inclement weather in the upcoming winter season.
“During the winter months, student transportation services sometimes needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather conditions,” the memo reads.
“Cancellations may happen in a single zone or they may happen in multiple zones simultaneously. It is very important for our stakeholders to be aware that a Zone cancellation affects not only the zone that they live in; but the zone that their school is located within.”
For Wallaceburg and Port Lambton residents, their zone is #5 and includes the following schools: AA Wright, Christ The King, Holy Family, HW Burgess, Riverview Central School, Sacred Heart, St. Elizabeth and Wallaceburg District Secondary School including the Grades 7 and 8’s.
For Dresden residents, their zone is #6 and includes the following schools: Dresden Area Central, Dawn-Euphemia Public School, Good Shepherd, Naahii Ridge, Ridgetown District Elementary, St. Michael – (Ridgetown), Thamesville Area Central, Zone Twp. Central, Lambton-Kent Composite School and Ridgetown District High School.
“The decision to cancel the buses is not taken lightly and a number of individuals and website tools are involved in the decision process,” the Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services memo reads. “Every weather zone is assigned a zone captain to assess what is happening within their zone, refer to weather applications for current
conditions as well as what the forecast is.”
“Once all of this information is gathered one captain for the region (one North – one South) reports their recommendation to the Manager of CLASS. This decision is made by 6 a.m. The Manager of CLASS is then responsible to report cancellation information to all of the local radio stations, Board Administrators and post it on www.schoolbusinfo.com before 6:20 a.m.
The memo also reads that the final decision whether or not to send your child to school on the bus during inclement
weather is always the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
“CLASS also reminds parents and guardians to ensure their students are always dressed appropriately for the weather conditions,” the memo reads.
