On Saturday, December 19, 2015, officers from the Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) and Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment joined forces to make Christmas brighter for 51 deserving youth from across Chatham-Kent.
The youth were treated to a morning of shopping, accompanied by a police officer as their ‘personal shopper.’
After shopping, the youth were treated to a buffet style breakfast, after being given a full police escort through Chatham.
The day included a demonstration of police equipment by the CKPS Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), a magic show, face painting, balloon animals, and gift wrapping.
The children were able to enjoy a horse and wagon ride and cookie decorating.
No Christmas event would be complete without a visit from Santa, who spent time with each child and their officer before sending them home with a bag full of treats.
The event was a huge success and planning has already begun for next year.
An event like this would not be possible without a tremendous amount of community support.
