Some Wallaceburg, Dresden and Mitchell’s Bay groups are set to benefit from the latest round of community partnership funding from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
Council is set to vote on a list of 17 applications recommended through the community projects component of the fund, and 16 applications recommended through the festivals and events component.
A total of $122,917.45 for the projects, and $55,978.00 for festivals and events is being recommended by administration to be handed out.
Some highlights from the list of projects, include:
– Dresden Community Development Association, Lambton-Kent Community Sports Field project, $10,000
– Mitchell’s Bay Area Association, Mitchell’s Bay banner project, $4,000
– Defiance Running Club, Wallaceburg/WDSS Sports Field Track Project, $10,000
– Let’s Make a Splash Pad Wallaceburg, Splash Pad in Wallaceburg, $10,000
– Wallaceburg Canoe and Kayak Club, Wallaceburg Paddlers, $5,000
Some highlights from the list of festivals and events, include:
– Dresden Sidestreets Youth Centre, Sidestreets 13th annual community dance, $653
– Kinsmen Club of Wallaceburg, Wallaceburg Kinsmen Pumpkinfest, $5,000
Amy Wilcox, manager of corporate initiatives in CHatham-Kent, said in a staff report that 40 applications were received requesting funding, while 33 of them are being recommended for funding.
Wilcox said in her report the community partnership fund was established by council in 2000.
It is a grant program which uses matching funding to promote community development projects within Chatham-Kent. Since its inception in 2000, the program has leveraged $3,088,010.91 in municipal investment into $13,199,398.54 worth of community development projects.
“And has encouraged widespread civic engagement and community improvement,” Wilcox added.
The 2016 round of the funding had a total base budget amount of $175,000.
The grant limit is $10,000 for community projects and $5,000 for festivals and events.
The items will be up for voting and discussion on Monday, March 7 at council’s regular meeting.
