The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with many other law enforcement partners is preparing to patrol the waterways of Lake St. Clair and its surrounding roadways during the bi-annual “Grassy 2 Rock” this Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Mitchells Bay, Ontario.
Grassy 2 Rock will showcase the community of Mitchell’s Bay to USA and Canadian boating communities and will feature local bands playing live out on a barge at Grassy.
The OPP, Chatham-Kent Police Service, Canadian Coast Guard, Canada Border Services and other Canadian and American enforcement partners will join together to ensure the safety of all mariners on Lake St. Clair as well those travelling on our surrounding highways.
Officers will be set up in the OPP mobile command unit at the Mitchells Bay Marina to deal with any incidents that arise. Land officers will ensure no one leaving the area marinas after boating will be drinking and driving to ensure everyone gets home safely.
The OPP remains vigilant in ensuring the safety of travellers on and off our waterways.
The OPP and its marine partners will be enforcing the Canada Shipping Act regulations, Criminal Code of Canada as well as the Liquor Licence Act.
Remember to:
– Wear your Personal Flotation Device (PFD);
– Arrange for a sober and qualified operator to operate your vessel;
– Persons convicted of Impaired Operation of a Vessel will lose their driver’s licence for at least a year, just as on a roadway;
– Comply with Liquor Licence Act legislations.
