The Board of Trustees for St. Clair Catholic has adopted a new strategic plan, which will guide the Board for the next several years.

“Our plan is both clear and concise,” says Dan Parr, Director of Education. “It can be expressed on a single sheet of paper so that all stakeholders – staff, students, parents and parish partners – can easily see and understand our goals and the role that each of us has in helping to achieve them.”

“This new strategic plan affirms our mission statement, which is rooted in our faith and will guide the Board towards attaining high levels of achievement for all students and wise stewardship of the resources entrusted to us by the public,” says Carol Bryden, Chair of the Board.

The document Lighting the Way – Rejoicing in Our Journey: Our Plan for Excellence in our Catholic Schools 2014 and Beyond sets out the strategic priorities of the Board, as identified in the mission statement, then lists the specific strategic actions and desired results. The document also outlines the development of the plan and the consultative steps with each of the stakeholder groups.

The document will be released to all stakeholders in September 2014, when the plan is communicated across the system.

Trustees for board also approved a budget for the 2014-2015 school year, which includes a $1.7 million operating surplus, $705,000 after meeting compliance regulations from the Ministry.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank Associate Director Jim McKenzie and his staff, for delivering a budget which not only addresses all of our learning and operational needs, but also helps to strengthen our accumulated surplus for the future,” says Carol Bryden, Chair of the Board.

The budget includes total revenues of $107,402,496 and total expenses of $105,665,768.

“This budget surplus is the result of careful planning and stewardship of resources in the face of on-going funding pressures brought on by declining enrolment,” says Dan Parr, Director of Education.

The 2014-2015 budget, which complies with Ministry of Education accountability and reporting requirements, will now be submitted to the ministry.
