Thunderstorm watch ends

Update: The severe thunderstorm watch in Chatham-Kent, and the warning in Sarnia-Lambton has ended.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect across Chatham-Kent, while a warning is in place in Sarnia-Lambton.

Forecasters say conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms in Chatham-Kent that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms are expected to move eastward across the regions this morning.

Some of these storms may become severe and warnings may be issued.

The primary threats are heavy rain and wind gusts of 90 kilometres per hour.

Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.

Hail is also possible.

Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

In Sarnia-Lambton, at 7 a.m., Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms from Sarnia to London will continue over the next few hours.

Heavy rain with near 50 millimetres in an hour and wind gusts to 90 kilometres per hour are the main threats.

Total amounts in excess of 50 millimetres are possible this morning in localized areas from Sarnia to London.
