Old electronics scam pops up in Chatham-Kent

Crime Stoppers officials say an old scam has made its way back to Chatham-Kent.

Over the past several weeks, in areas across the municipality, people have been approached by individuals offering to sell “new” televisions, stereos, video projectors and camera equipment.

“The suspects often use the story that they are brand new, high end electronics that are overstock items and are available at the significantly reduced price,” Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers stated in a press release.

“In reality they are pieces of junk.”

Crime Stoppers officials say if you are approached by someone offering you this “deal of a lifetime” don’t
engage them in conversation and contact the police immediately.

“Chatham-Kent has strict bylaws for ‘door-to-door’ sales and once advised of the penalties the suspects clear the area,” Crime Stoppers officials say.

“Remember ‘if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.'”
