Mary McGrail

Surrounded her loving daughters Mary peacefully went to heaven on Friday, January 26, 2018 on her 102nd Birthday

Mary was born in Alliston to Mary Ellen (O’Hara) and E.J. McCarroll. Sister of the late Gerard and Joe McCarroll. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, James (1992). Will be greatly missed by her Sisters in Law, Theresa Mathany, and Joanne McGrail. Predeceased by Joe and Angie McCarroll, Mary and Ron Rolling, Laurene and Herman Dakoske, Jack and Catherine McGrail, Helen and Francis O’Neil, Kay and Ed Smith, Fred and Elizabeth McGail, Doug Mathany and Pat McGrail. Cherished mother of Mary Marg McGrail of Sarnia, Jaime McGrail of London, Miriam and Gary Verslycken of Lighthouse Cove and Cathy and Vince Evers of Eagle Idaho, and Predeceased by her only son Ted (1991). Loved Grandmother of, Shawn (Mark), Sue (Gary), Julaine (Adam), Steven (Leah), Melanie (Dave), Karen (Craig), Beth, Mark (Kyley), Matthew (Kelsey), Michael, Laura (Gregor), Jack and Amy (Christian). Loved Great Grandmother of 16, Danielle, Riley, Owen, Piper, Cedar, Cassidy, Wren, Twyla, Ryan, Eric, Evan, Lachlan, Jada, Alyson, Dominic, and Yenna. Survived by many nieces and nephews.

She attended Toronto Normal Teachers College, and left the hills of Alliston to persue her teaching profession in Wallaceburg. After marrying Jim, she became a farmer’s wife and mother, taking on the role of preparing huge meals for farm thrashers, baking and canning hundreds of quarts of fruit. Mary loved to bake and she became known for “Grandma’s buns”. She was a proud gardener and a constant knitter. Mary supported Jim while on his many committees, including his role as Reeve of Dover Township. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling extensively.

Mom was a devote Catholic and believed in the power of prayer. Daily prayers and devotion were the norm. She was a CWL member for 74 years , was involved in Therasians, and was a prayerful member of Cenacal, and Bible Study. She enjoyed the retired Teacher’s Association and Mom started a Widows Group in Wallaceburg.

Friends and Relatives will be received at the Eric F. Nichols Funeral Home 639 Elgin St., Wallaceburg, with visitation Sunday January 28th from 2-4 and 6 30- 8 30 where the prayers will be said at 3:30 pm. The Celebration of her life will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Our Lady Help of Christians 422 Elgin Street, Wallaceburg at 11 am. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
