United Way eclipses $1.55-million campaign goal

Community members joined together this morning at the Links of Kent to celebrate United Way’s campaign achievement of $1,565,140.

Caterina Dawson, campaign chair for 2018, said there were many people to thank.

“From all of the volunteers, the cabinet members, staff and of course the donors,” Dawson said in a media release.

“Nothing is possible without all of them. I have been able to see and experience so much goodness in our community over the past few months. It has truly been an amazing experience for me personally, but it’s really awesome to know that our efforts will go to help so many people in Chatham-Kent.”

Steve Pratt, who completed his first fundraising campaign as the new CEO, said he was thankful for all of the support as well.

“I’d like to thank the community for your generous contributions of time, skills and donations,” Pratt said in a press release.

“You are essential in helping in to with the fight for the health, education and financial stability of everyone in our community. Today marks a transition to new and innovative ways of doing things. To all of Chatham-Kent, I would like you to know that United Way is truly working for you.”

The morning consisted of a celebration as United Way was able to announce that they had exceeded their goal of $1.559-million.

The organization also unveiled a new volunteer matching website that was donated to the community by Gigit and is the culmination of months of research and input, United Way officials said.

An updated website for United Way was also unveiled that will make learning about United Way and getting involved much easier.

These websites are set to go live later this month.
