No Changes in Board of Trustee Leadership

There will be no changes in the leadership of the Board of Trustees for St. Clair Catholic.
At this evening’s Initial Board meeting, John Van Heck was acclaimed to the position of
Chair of the Board and Mat Roop was acclaimed Vice Chair. Both Mr. Van Heck and
Mr. Roop held the same positions during the 2019 term.

Mr. Van Heck, who has been a Catholic Trustee since 2006, has held the position of
Chair of the Board for the previous four years. Trustee Mat Roop will serve his second
term as Vice Chair.

In accepting their positions, Mr. Van Heck and Mr. Roop thanked their fellow Trustees
for their continued vote of confidence.

“We have exciting days ahead of us,” says Mr. Van Heck. Our new St. Angela Merici
Catholic School will open in September 2020, and the final refurbishment of the Our
Lady of Fatima site will be completed as it becomes the new home of French Immersion
in Chatham in September 2021. In addition, we will continue to work towards
completion of land agreements for our new south Chatham and Sarnia schools.”

“I am particularly excited by the implementation of our new strategic plan, with a new
vision, mission, priorities and values,” says Mr. Roop. “This new plan will guide our
Catholic students, staff and families for many years to come.”

Elections for the positions of Chair and Vice Chair are held annually at the Board’s
December meeting. The term of office for both positions expires at the end of November
2020.

The evening began with Mass, which was celebrated in the Ursuline Boardroom of the
Catholic Education Centre. Father Chris Gillespie, pastor of the Holy Redeemer Parish
cluster was celebrant, with the ministry of music provided by Dorothy de Bakker and
Superintendent Laura Callaghan.
