A $200,000 fundraising campaign has been launched, as expansion plans move forward for the Wallaceburg Community Medical Centre.

The Wallaceburg site of the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team is asking for the public’s help to raise the funds to expand the McNaughton Avenue Plaza site by 2,200 square feet to accommodate more doctors and the associated Allied Health Professionals.

The facility is located at 30 McNaughton Ave.

Recently in 2014, one new doctor has been recruited to work in the facility and space is needed to add at least two more doctors.

The $200,000 is required to add new physician examination rooms, a nursing station, the new education centre, renovations, furniture, equipment, examination tables, computers, printers and software, telephones, electrical upgrades, plumbing, furniture and more.

Family Health team officials say on average it costs $40,000 to $50,000 to accommodate one physician.

“We understand the importance a family doctor has on the health of the community and the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team is actively pursuing the addition of more health care professionals,” the Family Health Team said in a letter. “The Wallaceburg site is very fortunate to have the necessary available space beside the current facility. This is a low cost solution when compared to building an entirely new location, the multi-million dollar solution that was required in the other communities of Ridgetown, Tilbury and Dresden.”

The team is looking for volunteers to help dedicate time to fundraising for the facility.

An open community meeting is scheduled for this Thursday February 27th, at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building on James Street in Wallaceburg.
