Chez Denise celebrating 5 years

chez deniseChez Denise Bistro and Cafe, located at 153 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg, is celebrating five years in business this week.

In fact, today March 17th St. Patrick’s Day, is the exact five-year mark.

Denise Hatfield, owner of the business, said she is offering up some specials this week to mark the occasion.

“Whoever comes in for lunch is going to get a specialty coffee or tea or whatever drink on the house,” she said. “Throughout the week we are going to do samples … on Tuesday we’re going to do cake as a dessert on the house. There will be different things like that throughout the whole week.”

Hatfield said she is proud to have served the Wallaceburg and surrounding community for these five years, and she prides herself in her homemade dishes, in particular her soups.

Without giving too much away, Hatfield shares a little of her “secret.”

“You start with onions, celery and carrots or onions, celery and peppers and expand from there,” she said. “We hear the same compliment quite a bit. What is your soup of the day? Oh, it doesn’t matter. It is going to be good. That’s the general comment. People have embraced fresh, no fired, from scratch, kind of like Mom used to make or Grandma used to make.”

Hatfield said they worked really hard when she first purchased the building to completely remodel it and make it over.

“It was completely overhauled,” she said. “The entire restaurant and the condo upstairs.”
