On April 3, 2014, just before 9:00 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving an airboat on Lake St. Clair, near Mitchell’s Bay, approximately one half mile from shore.

The collision occurred when the boat, carrying three men, struck an object in the water, causing it to veer and overturn.

The three men, a 73 year old from Mitchell’s Bay, a 74 year old from Tupperville and a 69 year old from Bass Haven, were briefly submerged in the 4’ deep water before climbing up onto the overturned boat to signal for help.

An individual on shore, who had seen what occurred, immediately placed a phone call for assistance.

A nearby fisherman attended in his boat and transported the three men to safety.

No injuries were reported.
