Spring hunting season kicking off

Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is taking this opportunity to remind the public that more hunters are likely to be seen beginning April 25, 2014 until May 31, 2014 as the spring hunting season opens for wild turkey.

Often, members of the public will see an increase in vehicles parked along the side of rural roads as hunters make their way safely to a hunting area during the scheduled hunting hours.

Hunters are reminded to seek permission to enter onto the property of someone else in order to hunt turkeys or any animal. Also, permission that was granted in 2013 may not have standing in 2014. Please seek new permission for each hunting year, and better yet, for every separate hunting season.

Permission that has been granted and is in writing will best serve a hunter or group of hunters in the event that their authority to hunt in a particular area is questioned.

To avoid conflict, property owners, members of the public and hunters are encouraged to notify Lambton OPP in the event of any disagreement the groups may have, in reference to the hunting season, animals being hunted or permission to be on any given property. A phone call to Lambton OPP can help with conflict resolution in matters such as these.

Further, by visiting the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) web site, property owners, members of the public and hunters can better familiarize themselves with laws and regulations pertaining to hunting: Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Home Page – Government of Ontario, Ministry of Natural Resources.
