Capital projects proposed for Wallaceburg

Council will vote on a list of capital projects proposed by staff at the upcoming council meeting.

Administration is presenting a report to council on Monday (April 28) listing all of their proposed capital projects for 2014, along with proposed projects for the following four years and future projects as well.

A number of the projects on the list are being proposed for Wallaceburg

Some road work is being proposed in Wallaceburg for this year, including slope stabilization projects for Dora Drive at a cost of $130,000 and for Wallace Street at a cost of $40,000.

Some seawall repairs for Mitchell’s Bay Marina is being proposed for this year as well. Staff states the work is needed due to low water levels. This project is being estimated at $46,000.

Two major pavement rehabilitation projects are being recommended for Wallaceburg as well.

A $1 million project to fix the roads between Dufferin Ave to Base Line Road is being proposed for 2015 and an $800,000 project for Dufferin Avenue to Arnold Road is being proposed for 2016.

Staff also listed a number of projects under the future net capital projects category to take place between 2019 and 2023, including:

– A $1.2 million renovation and expansion for the Dresden Library

– A $500,000 renovation and expansion for the Wallaceburg Library

– A $203,000 project to replace lockstone sidewalks in Wallaceburg

– A $120,000 project to re-open and improve Old Glass/Forhan Street

– A $125,000 project to enhance the soccer fields at Steinoff Park in Wallaceburg

Staff listed the potential projects utilizing a annual budget of $4.883 million.

The staff report states all capital projects have been ranked according to the five budget ranking
criteria:

• Sustainability
• Impact to CK-Community
• Strategy
• Risk
• Impact to Ward/User Community
