The 17th annual business and community excellence awards was held at the Baldoon Golf Club.
Taking home the top prize at Wallaceburg and District and Chamber of Commerce’s gala event as Citizen of the Year, was Travis Hooper.
“It’s overwhelming to be honest with you,” Hooper said. “To see past recipients like Chip Gordon and Jerry Benn and Frank Dymock you don’t feel like you’ve contributed long enough to be in the honours with those guys. It’s a nice surprise. It’s like the lifetime achievement award and when you get it this early you feel like you’re not quite there yet. I’m overwhelmed.”
Barb McCaughrin, the chair of the committee, said she was thrilled with the turn out of the event.
“It was amazing,” she said. “Lots of people, I think we had at least 130 if not more in attendance. The food was amazing, Baldoon I’m telling you this is the place to hold your event, Melissa (Gaylard) did an awesome job at organizing everything. She took care of a lot for us. All the award winners… so many people were so deserving.”
