For the 14th year in a row, Community Living Wallaceburg is delivering boxed lunches across the community.

Ron Laroche, spokesperson for Community Living Wallaceburg, said the event is a great fundraising initiative for the agency.

“Through the support of communities right across Chatham-Kent, businesses, home owners… we had a total of 1,450 orders that are going to be going out right across Chatham-Kent today,” Laroche said. “It’s a great fundraiser for the agency, more importantly it’s an opportunity to tell people ordering boxed lunches what Community Living is all about, the supports and services that we provide and really get our name out there.”

Laroche said their team of volunteers showed up at the UAWW Hall in Wallaceburg bright and early to get to work.

“We had roughly 40 volunteers show up around 6 a.m.,” he said. “We started with making sandwiches. We had a variety of sandwiches… grilled chicken, ham and swiss and veggie. Once that was done we did the packaging of the boxes. There is an assembly line that happens. After 14 years, it is a bit of a science, it’s fine tuned machine. People come every year and it is almost like riding a bike, they just get in there, make the sandwiches, box them up and it just happens. We have packers in the back filling the orders.”

Laroche said the volunteers are the keys to the events success.

“We could not do this without the volunteers that we have,” he said. “There is a lot of preparation that happened beforehand, and we have 43 drivers coming today. So close to 100 people helping with this initiative.”

Larcohe added they are not only delivering lunches in Wallaceburg, Chatham and Dresden, but also Ridgetown, Tilbury, in Lambton in Watford area.

“People hear about the lunches, word gets out and we’re just happy to spread some awareness about what we do,” he said.
