Happy Mother’s Day

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today is one of the busiest restaurant days of the entire year.

Although not a statutory holiday, people in the food service industry likely feel it should be.

I have a ministry friend who feels this day is just one of those “Hallmark holidays” but I feel differently.

Any excuse to give honour and esteem to our parents is perfectly fine with me.

I grew up in a home where my mom sacrificed at mealtimes so that three hungry boys could have second helpings.

She did all of our haircuts, enforced Saturday morning chores, and made sure our shirts were pressed for our jobs as waiters at a restaurant.

My mom worked every Mothers’ Day for 24 years, too, as a waitress at this same restaurant.

Maybe that was why I hated working on that day.

Our celebrations were kind of low key back then because of the work commitment, but my mom’s desire was to see that other moms out there enjoyed a nice meal out with their families on this special day.

My mom is now in her mid-70’s and still wonders if I’m getting enough to eat or if I’m working too much.

She will never stop caring and being my mom.

There is no retirement date on that, and she doesn’t seem to mind at all.

Whatever you choose to do this day for your mom, make it special.

If your mom’s not living anymore, pause to pray and thank God for the years you had with her.

One way or the other, today is a day to celebrate our moms!
