About a dozen steel barrels that were sitting on a property at the corner of Murray Street and Duke Street in Wallaceburg earlier this week, are gone.

Local residents say they spotted a clean-up crew at the site earlier this morning, loading up the barrels and taking them away.

Earlier in the week, neighbours expressed concerns about the property due to the unknown contents of the barrels and the fact that children were playing on the dumpsters at the location.

The ownership of the site has also come into question.

Officials with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent say the property is owned by CSX.

While officials with CSX say they sold the property to Chatham-Kent last year.

A CSX spokesperson told the Sydenham Current today said they were not aware of anyone going over to cleanup the property.

Calls to the Municipality were not returned.

We’ll provide an update when more information becomes available.
