Wallaceburg PC volunteers worked hard on re-election campaign

Community member volunteers gathered at the Black Goose in Wallaceburg to watch intensely for the results of yesterdays provincial election. After a full campaign of volunteering, members stated their feelings about PC candidate, Monte McNaughton who has now been re-elected as MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

Anne Stewart, a PC supporter and volunteer, said McNaughton is “decent” and “he’s right.

“I think we have a better chance to get rid of the debt. The debt is almost three hundred billion dollars. The interest on that debt is phenomenal and we cannot continue on the deficit. That will affect everybody and taxes will go up,” she said.

Stewart said she had an important message for citizens that chosen not to vote.

“I think it’s very important to vote,” she said. “For those that don’t vote then you number one, can’t complain and number two, the wrong party can get in. It affects everything. It affects us financially, morally, economically and politically.”

After the polls came in, volunteer Rick Devolder said his feelings still remain the same towards the PC’s.

“The PC party is the only party that has the belief in paying our bills and lowering taxes to make our economy grow,” he said. “The rest of the governments want to raise taxes, kill jobs and all the young people are moving out West. We’re all losing our kids to the West because of high taxes.”

Devolder added: “We seem to be the only ones that understand that if the lower taxes you can actually generate revenue by creating jobs.”

Devolder said many volunteers couldn’t make the gathering at the Black Goose, but agreed that the volunteers efforts didn’t go unnoticed.

“A lot of work went into putting up signs, organizing more volunteers and talking to people,” Devolder said. “I wanted to get involved and started at the last election, once Monte got elected.”
