Water woes on Walpole Island

Unpaid bills led to the water being shut off on Walpole Island First Nation earlier this week.

However, the water has been turned back on.

Reports say about 80 homes had their water turned off on Tuesday.

Many of them contacted their public works department and had the water restored. No payment was needed up front, but payment plans were arranged, according to previously published reports.

No one was available to comment on the story at the Walpole Island First Nation administrative office this afternoon when we spoke with them.

Reports say the water shut offs were a part of a debt recovery plan by Walpole Island administration.

Notice was apparently given on the sign outside of the Walpole Island Sports Complex.

We’ll look to provide more information when it becomes available.
