The second “Pies and Purses” event was held at St. James Anglican Church on Saturday night, with great success.
The event, which raises funds for the Mom’s Baby Cupboard program at the church, gathered a total of $6,000 on the night.
Sandra Johnston, one of the organizers, said $5,000 was raised at the event and the Festival Of Giving committee also donated $1,000 towards the cause.
“We were very happy with our night and we also brought in baby products for the cupboard, so it was a great night for the social committee that put on this big fundraiser,” she said. “We would like to thank everyone for making it such a success for the babies.”
Since January 27, 2011, the Baby Cupboard is open on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Those who are caring for needy babies – mothers, fathers or other caretakers – are not required to belong to any particular affiliation to access the Baby Cupboard.
What is required is a particular need of the baby due to financial hardship and the inability to meet the need through other community resources such as food banks or other resource centers.
