Relay For Life meeting at UAW Hall

The public is invited to a meeting tonight (Nov. 4) at the UAW Hall to discuss Relay For Life.

The Sydenham Current reported on Saturday that a fifth straight Relay For Life event in Wallaceburg will not be taking place.

Instead, Canadian Cancer Society officials confirmed that the Wallaceburg event would join the Chatham event on Saturday, June 13 at Chatham-Kent Secondary School in Chatham. The time of the event is set to change to run from noon until midnight.

“This is about a community as a whole coming together to fundraise for the fight against cancer,” said Cindy Vinall, manager of the Canadian Cancer Society Chatham-Kent branch. “We are going to encourage at all levels, not just from Chatham, but in Wallaceburg. Our hope is that folks from Wallaceburg will join us. So it isn’t going to feel like a Chatham event.”

Vinall added: “In our early years of Relay, we had other people from communities across Chatham-Kent. I don’t want people to look at it like something is being taken away, I want people to look at it as an opportunity to build something really big, to have a huge impact and to really enhance the people we live with and work with.”

The meeting tonight (Nov. 4) will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the UAW Hall, located at 88 Elm Drive South in Wallaceburg.

People in the community and anyone interested in hearing more from the Canadian Cancer Society about the changes are encouraged to come out.
