CK Table has captured an Ontario-wide tourism award.

“The Chatham-Kent community should be very proud of the CK Table organizers and their annual event,” said Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope today, following the announcement that CK Table is the winner of 2014 Ontario Culinary Tourism Association event of the year award. CK Table is an annual event, held in September, that celebrates Chatham-Kent food, drink and agriculture. Its motto is “Grown here. Made here. Served here.”

The announcement was made on Thursday evening at the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario’s 2014 annual awards gala at the Blue Mountain resort in Collingwood. The audience included representatives of the tourism industry from communities across the province, as well as the Honourable Michael Coteau, Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Accepting the award for the CK Table committee were Joseph Grootenboer and Rob Salter of River Bell Market Garden. Fellow organizer Paul Spence of Lo Maximo Meats was unable to attend the awards event.

“First of all, it is a lot of fun putting on the CK Table event,” said Joseph Grootenboer, “and it was a great honour to be there, on behalf of the CK Table farmer group, accepting the award for having done something unique. It is a very significant honour to be recognized by tourism providers across the province.”

“On behalf of Council, I would like to congratulate the members of the CK Table committee,” added Mayor Hope. “As an agricultural community, we know we produce great food, and now that message has been broadcast ac: ross Ontario as well. Great food not only feeds our residents and boosts our agricultural sales, but it also attracts visitors to local restaurants, markets and events. CK Table’s award is a win for our local economy and for our quality of life.”
