Ice cold dip for United Way, see photos

Three local residents took a dip in the freezing cold Snye River this afternoon, in support of the United Way of Chatham-Kent.

Newt Richardson, Angie Moore and Stan Marchalewicz took part in the annual Freezin’ for a Reason event, which was held at the boat docks at McDonald Park in Port Lambton.

“I’m doing it to raise funds for United Way,” said Richardson, who is the chair of the Wallaceburg campaign for the United Way. “I figured I better set a good example and take part.”

Richardson said supporting the United Way is important.

“United Way supports a lot of the agencies that help people that are in need and a lot less fortunate then we are,” he said. “I strongly believe that those people that have a little should give a little.”

Marchalewicz, a Chatham resident who works at Accurcast in Wallaceburg, said he “had to fulfill my end of the commitment” and the employees at Accurcast raised “a bunch of money to see me go in.”

In total, Richardson said he raised about $1,500 for the event, while Moore, owner of Gatsby’s Grill House, brought in $240.

Accurcast and Marchalewicz brought in a whopping $10,000 for the event as part of their employee campaign.

At the halfway point of the campaign in Wallaceburg, a total of $46,230 has been raised so far.

Their goal is to gather $110,174 when it is all said and done.
