The flag is at half-mast at a Wallaceburg business, after the sudden loss of one of their leaders.

Ted Arnold, the chief financial officer for Maverick Canada Ltd. in Wallaceburg, died on Saturday.

He was 67.

Not only was Arnold a top official at Maverick, he was the former chairman and a very active supporter of the Celebration of Lights, a fixture of the Christmas season in Sarnia.

“He lived a very busy lifestyle, both through work and volunteering his time through various organizations,” read Arnold’s obituary. “He will be remembered for always lending a helping hand. Ted’s most treasured moments were the times spent with his grandchildren.”

Many people who knew Arnold flocked online to offer their condolences to Arnold’s family and to share some memories they had of him.

“He was, without doubt, one of the most fair and good natured men I have ever met,” said Jan Cornelius.

“You were a fair and honest guy that was a very positive influence on everyone that you came in contact with,” said Pete McCarter. “The Detroit Lions will miss having you as a fan.”

Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Thursday, December 4, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a service taking place at 12 p.m.
