The local schools boards in the area have began a new era, as both the Lambton-Kent District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic District School Boards held their inaugural organization meetings on Tuesday.
The 11 board members will serve for the next four years for the LKDSB: Jane Bryce, Randy Campbell, Ruth Ann Dodman, Dave Douglas, Jack Fletcher, Elizabeth Hudie, Tom McGregor, Scott McKinlay, Bob Murphy, Lareina Rising and Shannon Sasseville.
The Trustees re-elected Scott McKinlay to the position of Chair of the Board and Jane Bryce was elected to the position of vice-chair of the Board.
Chair McKinlay has served as a Trustee since 2000.
Vice-chair Bryce has served since 1994.
“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank chair McKinlay and vice-chair Bryce for taking on leadership responsibilities for the new board,” stated Jim Costello, director of education. “Together we will foster success for every student, every day.”
Carol Bryden was re-elected chair of the St. Clair Catholic District School Board at the inaugural meeting for the SCCDSB.
However, there was a change in the number two spot.
Michelle Parks has been acclaimed vice chair, replacing trustee John Van Heck.
Bryden was first elected as a trustee in 2006.
She is a retired principal of Catholic Curriculum Services with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board, having served as an educator for 32 years.
In accepting a fifth term, Bryden thanked her fellow trustees for the privilege of serving as Chair.
“As a board, we are looking forward to the next year with hope – hope for continued excellence in programs and services for our students, good relationships with our staff and the opportunity to serve one another in our Catholic faith,” stated Bryden.
Park was first elected to the position of Catholic trustee nine years ago and says she looks forward to working with her fellow trustees, staff and parents to continue the board’s work to help every student succeed.
“I am very excited and look forward to the challenges ahead in the new year,” stated Park. “I hope to work closely with our chair, Carol Bryden and to continue to support our vision of Lighting the Way and Rejoicing in Our Journey.”
