A Wallaceburg hockey legend will be remembered during an annual tournament in his name coming up in Wallaceburg.

The Frank Dymock Classic Tournament will be held at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena from February 13-15.

“Frank is a big part of Wallaceburg, a big name in Wallaceburg… anybody that has been on the ice before or has laced up skates, knows Frank,” said Tom Cogghe, organizer of the tournament.

“In 2008, they started the tournament in honour of Frank. He was always at the tournaments, always sat in the press box and watched the kids play. He loved being there.”

Cogghe said Frank would always make sure every kid that participated in the tournament received a souvenir puck after the tournament.

“That is one thing that we are carrying on,” he said. “Frank was adamant that he wanted all the kids to get pucks every year. So every kid that comes in the tournament, players, coaches, anybody involved, they get a puck. We’re trying to carry on that tradition.”

Cogghe said the tournament is a good fundraiser for Wallaceburg Minor Hockey.

“For us and Minor Hockey it is a good fundraiser, the Hockey Mom’s are a big part of it too,” he said. “This is a big fundraiser for them every year, they do a 50/50 draw, a raffle table, bake sale. Also, it is all about keeping the registration costs down for minor hockey every year.”

Cogghe said they are still looking for donations in the form of the following:

– Prizes for their raffle table.

– Monetary donations, to help with costs of the tournament.

– Advertising in their Tournament Program which will be handed out to spectators and participants. The ad sizes are business card size – $25, next size $50, twice as big as business card, or $100 which would be full page in the program.

If anyone is interested in donating they can contact Cogghe by cell phone 519-365-6422 or by email – tcogghe@hotmail.com

They are accepting donations until January 11.

Also, Cogghe said the Wallaceburg and District Museum is going to be opening up their doors on the Saturday of the tournament as well, in order for players in the tournament to check out the Frank Dymock display at the Museum.

They are offering $1 off admission as well.

The tournament itself includes teams from Atom, Peewee and Bantam in Local League or House League only.
