The Plymouth Whalers are moving to Flint, Michigan – not Chatham-Kent.

IMS USA Inc. – the owners of Flint’s Perani Arena announced at a press conference this morning that they have acquired the Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers from Peter Karmanos and are bringing the team to Flint.

Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

The purchase agreement is pending approval from the Ontario Hockey League.

This is expected to be finalized on Feb. 2.

The team is expected to play in Flint for the 2015-16 season.

At the beginning of December, Karmanos said he was targeting a small Canadian city for relocation.

“Hopefully, Chatham,” Karmanos told ESPN.

Chatham-Kent officials had a sit down meeting with a hockey club just before Christmas.

Although details were not disclosed about who the meeting was with, reports indicate the meeting was with Plymouth officials.

A new arena would be required in Chatham-Kent if an OHL team were to ever call C-K home.
