Police have charged a Chatham man for impersonating a police officer.
On January 14, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police received complaint from a Wallaceburg couple, after they purchased a set of speakers from a Kijiji ad.
When they met with the male to make an exchange, he presented himself as a police officer, wearing a law enforcement style jacket with shoulder flashes.
On January 15, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police received a complaint of a man attending a local business the week prior and attempting to sell speakers, while wearing a law enforcement style jacket.
It was believed to be the same man from both incidents.
Through investigation, the man’s identity was obtained and police conducted a search warrant on his residence.
A law enforcement jacket was seized, and the 46 year old Chatham resident was charged with personating a peace officer and released with a future court date.
