John Fleischmann Sr., a resident of Wallaceburg, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at the age of 84.

John is survived by his beautiful wife Elisabeth, his children Helene (George) Linka, Elsa (Tony) Wheeler, John (Julie) Fleischmann Jr, Caroline (Brian) MacDonald, Linda (Larry) Adams and his brother Joseph (Veronica) Fleischmann.

He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Britney, Madolyn, Chelsea, Ryan, Christopher, Adam, Matthew, Daniel and Lindsay who were the greatest joys of his life.

After fleeing the ravages of post war Yugoslavia he met the love of his life Elisabeth in Linz, Austria.

They were married June 27, 1953 and began their journey and life together immigrating to Canada.

John started in a GM dealership in Durham in 1957 and moved to Wallaceburg in 1962 to take over Riverview Automobile.

He considered Wallaceburg his “promised land” and was blessed with great friends, employees and customers.

Not ready for retirement, John opened Welland Toyota in 1990 and became a commuter at the age of 60.

Although not by choice, John was forced to slow down and enjoy life in his back yard enjoying BBQ’s, family visits and Sunday afternoon outings to Dresden raceway with his good friend Ed Modde.

John enjoyed dancing, music, traveling to visit his family in Europe and the US and watching the Maple Leafs.

He was a devoted member of Holy Family Church.

Special thanks to all of his caregivers and staff at Riverview Automobile who helped him so much over the past few years.

Also special thanks to all the staff at CKHA for all of their kindness and care over the past few months.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Monday.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Tuesday, February 10 at 11 AM.

Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
