Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A report of a man carrying what appeared to be a firearm prompted a police response and precautionary lockdowns at several schools in Blenheim on Tuesday morning.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officers were called to Chatham Street South at about 10:01 a.m. on April 21 after receiving reports of a male walking in the area with what looked like a firearm.
Due to the proximity of nearby schools, multiple police units responded and four local schools, along with surrounding locations, were placed in lockdown as a precaution.
Police identified the individual as a 21-year-old man from Blenheim and secured the scene.
The investigation was quickly resolved after the individual approached officers and said he was transporting a pellet gun to his residence. Police confirmed the pellet gun was not being used in a threatening manner.
Officers seized the pellet gun, and the individual was released unconditionally.
All lockdown measures were lifted and the public was notified once police determined there was no ongoing threat to safety.
