Update: Investigation continues into First Street blaze

The Chatham-Kent Fire Department is still investigating a fire that took place on Sunday at 48 First Street in Wallaceburg.

“The fire was in the basement and was held there,” Ric Scharf, assistant fire chief, told the Sydenham Current.

“Still working on details, but preliminary cause may be a space heater thawing pipes.”

A total of 14 firefighters battled the blaze, which was called in at around 12:40 p.m.

Sources say there were no injuries.
