The former owner of the Wallaceburg McDonald’s restaurant has given a NHL goaltender the “Stanley Cup” of all fast-food deals.

Ottawa Senators goalie Andrew Hammond has gotten off to a remarkable start in his rookie campaign, going 10-0-1 to begin his career in the National Hockey League. Nicknamed the “The Hamburglar,” the 27-year-old picked up a hamburger thrown on the ice after a shootout victory on Sunday. See the video below:

Hammond’s success caught the attention of former Wallaceburg resident, John Bergeron.

The businessman, who now owns six McDonald’s restaurants in the Ottawa Valley, owned the Wallaceburg location for many years.

Also, Bergeron’s son Chris, who is the head coach of the Bowling Green Falcons, coached Hammond for three seasons.

To coincide with Hammond’s success and nickname, Bergeron approached the McDonald’s corporate office with an idea to hold a hamburger giveaway at a Senator’s game.

Instead, they came up with the idea to give Hammond a card for free McDonald’s for life.

“If hockey doesn’t work out, I have a meal plan,” Hammond told the Ottawa Sun.
