With the warmer temperatures and deteriorating ice, tree branches and debris are beginning to float down the Sydenham River.

Wallaceburg resident Melissa Cadieux even spotted a full size dock with a picnic table sitting on top of it in her back yard along the Sydenham.

“It’s gone down towards the bridges downtown,” she said. “Lots of stuff floated down.”

In a statement issued by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority on Thursday, officials said water levels are expected to remain high for the next few days.

“Ice conditions have deteriorated throughout the watershed with significant thickness in the lower reaches of the Sydenham River,” SCRCA officials said. “When this ice breaks up, ice jams are very possible and could result in minor flooding above the jams.”

The SCRCA will continue to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories should flood issues arise.
