Dresden Rotary donates $60,000 to sports field project

Awards and a major donation were handed out on Wednesday night at the 29th annual banquet for the Dresden Rotary Club.

The major highlight of the night at the Dresden Arena banquet hall was a $60,000 cheque given towards the Lambton-Kent Community Sports Field project.

Dina Edwards, president of the Dresden Rotary Club, announced the donation at the banquet and handed the cheque over to a group of Dresden youth, see the video below:

The Dresden Rotary also recognized Christal Wills on Wednesday as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Wills follows in the footsteps of Dresden’s Gary Edwards who was given the honour last year.

A Paul Harris Fellow is a honour given in recognition of the founder of Rotary International, Paul Harris.

The guest speaker at the event was author Terry Fallis.

Fallis is a Canadian writer and public relations consultant, whose debut novel The Best Laid Plans was awarded the Stephen Leacock Medal in 2008.

Fallis talked about his debut novel, which is a satire of Canadian politics.

He also discussed how he managed to self-publish the novel, when other publishers were not keen on the story idea.
