The community of Dresden is in store for some lacrosse action tonight (April 9) at Dresden Arena.

The Wallaceburg Red Devils will travel up Highway 78 to battle the Point Edward Pacers in an exhibition tilt.

The Red Devils, along with the Wallaceburg Thrashers senior team, have been training at the Dresden Arena this pre-season.

“Dresden had the ice out a bit sooner than Wallaceburg,” said Steve Lilley, a director with the Red Devils. “We had the opportunity to get on the floor a bit earlier than usual, so we jumped all over it.”

Lilley said game against Point Edward is the first lacrosse game he has ever heard of being played in Dresden.

“It’s a chance for us to play in front of some new fans,” he said. “It allows us and Sarnia to expand our fan bases a bit… help grow the game.”

Lilley said C-K Recreation came in and painted the lacrosse lines on the Dresden Arena floor in preparation of the contest.

There is a $5 admission to the game, which starts at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the gate are going towards the ‪#‎FundsForFines‬ campaign.

Sarnia’s Michelle Fines is currently battling stage four bone cancer.

Kevin Fines, Michelle’s brother, owns Micor Sports in Sarnia and is rallying the lacrosse community to help with this fight.

“We were looking for a way to raise some funds on behalf of Wallaceburg Lacrosse,” Lilley said.

“Wallaceburg and Sarnia has a rich history in lacrosse, we’re very connected. We wanted to show our support. Kevin has always been involved in lacrosse, both professionally and locally.”

Kevin Fines is expected to be at Dresden Arena for a ceremonial face-off before the game.

Lilley said the game itself will also feature a lot of hopefuls looking to crack the roster, for both Wallaceburg and Point Edward.

“It is still try outs basically,” he said.

Watch for coverage on the Sydenham Current following tonight’s game.
