Construction has begun on our Chatham-Kent’s 10-bed Residential Hospice.

A formal Construction launch took place on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the site of the future hospice; corner of Wellington Street & Adelaide Street in Chatham.

This was an opportunity to celebrate an important milestone for the project and thank everyone who has helped get the project to this point.

“The launch of a hospice for our community is a gift we celebrate by wrapping it in the ribbons of our loved ones, past and present,” said Jennifer Wilson, Chair, Chatham-Kent Hospice Board.

During construction, people are invited to visit the site and tie a ribbon on the fence along Adelaide Street to honour a loved one. Ribbons will be available at the site or at the front desk of St. Andrew’s Residence.

“The hospice philosophy is compassionate care and the success of the project so far is due to the compassionate heart of our community. We hope to see the fence covered in colourful ribbons which will remind all of us that the hospice will be there to provide compassionate, end-of-life care to all our family and friends,” said Jessica Smith, Executive Director, Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Also introduced at the event was the Hospice Hope Chest Campaign. This campaign invites people to help make the Hospice a home by making a donation towards furniture and equipment specifically designed for end of life.

“There are items at all different price points so it is a really practical way you can support the project. With Mother’s and Father’s Day coming up, it also may be a thoughtful way to honour a loved one,” said Jodi Maroney, Director of Development, Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Information packages are available at local Municipal Service Centres.

Construction is expected to be complete on the 10-bed Residential Hospice by the end of 2015.
