Wisdom to shut your pie hole

Doug Larson once said, “Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk.”

So there you are on Facebook and someone posts something that is outrageous and warrants a rebuttal.

As you decide to enter into the fray a still, small voice from the inside of you warns that this might not be the best course of action.

But hey, someone needs to speak up, and that someone may as well be YOU!

The problem, of course, is that once you hit the “enter” key, the option of changing your mind is removed.

You are left having to deal with the consequences of your lack of wisdom.

Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”

What price are you willing to pay in order to obtain wisdom?

Doctors go to school for many years in order to acquire the wisdom and knowledge to be able to treat the illnesses of the myriad of patients who come to see them.

The same is true for business moguls, those in the legal profession, and on and on.

There is a price to pay to have wisdom but many don’t count the cost.

Instead, they do what comes easy: they open their mouths and give an unfiltered opinion.

Listening works much better, really.

James 1:19 says it best: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

How’s that workin’ for ya, anyway?

Why not practice a little “quick listening” and “slow speaking” this week and see how it turns out?

I think you’ll like the results.
