From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
There’s a famous quote by Edmund Burke that says, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
It is not hard to feel completely overwhelmed when we read the daily news headlines and see all the turmoil and devastation that is happening in our world.
But, a little can go a long way if we are just willing to take a few simple steps.
Think of your plan in terms of “pray, pay, say, and play”.
First, we can pray.
Bring the situation of concern before the Lord in prayer.
This should be our first response.
Secondly, we can pay.
Is there something set up where a donation can help those in need?
What can I afford to give to help towards this need?
Thirdly, we should have our ‘say’.
Write a letter of encouragement to those suffering, or, as the case may be, sign a petition or write a letter of protest to a government official, appealing for their support.
Finally, we can ‘play’ a part.
This is where we respond with our actions.
Do they need volunteers to help in clean up, or manning an emergency situation, or joining a relief team?
Is this something you could do?
Responding proactively to a crisis instead of just moping and despairing of its magnitude can make a great deal of difference.
Couple that with others who respond in similar fashion and the solution might just be right around the corner.
God will help you, and little is much when God is in it.
