Severe thunderstorms possible

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in Chatham-Kent.

A cluster of thunderstorms is moving eastwards across southern lower Michigan and is expected to reach Southwestern Ontario around 4 or 5 pm EDT. A few of these thunderstorms may be capable of producing very strong wind gusts, as well as potentially large hail of 2 cm or more. This round of thunderstorms should move past by early evening but more thunderstorms are possible later this evening into the overnight hours. These may be severe as well.

Locally heavy rain is also possible. Intense lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Please monitor local media or Weatheradio. To report severe weather, send an email to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ONStorm.
