Union Gas lends a hand at A.A. Wright

Union Gas employees visited A.A.Wright on Saturday to lend a helping hand.

“Union Gas invested in our school by providing volunteers who gave time and effort to improve learning spaces for A.A. Wright students,” said Ben Hazzard, principal at the school.

“The projects focused on sorting picture books into bins so our primary students can easily find the books they like best. The project also purchased standing desks that will be used in the A.A. Wright Learning Commons. Some students prefer to stand and complete projects, these desks allow for that.”

Hazzard said the Union Gas Helping Hands In Action program helps improves student learning opportunities at A.A. Wright by completing these projects.

“A.A. Wright’s Learning Commons teacher, Matt Mikhaila was instrumental in planning projects that met the needs of our school,” he said.

Through the Helping Hands In Action program Union Gas employees, retirees and their families and friends contribute their “sweat equity” to projects that improve, renovate or add tangible value to non-profit and charitable organizations in their communities.

In 2014 alone, 296 Helping Hands In Action projects across Ontario were completed.

The grant to A.A. Wright totalled $2,000.
