With 40 to 50 mm of precipitation in the forecast for Saturday, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority are expecting the levels of the Sydenham River to be very high.

“Water levels on the Sydenham River and its tributaries will be pushed to top of bank conditions this weekend,” St. Clair Region Conservation Authority officials stated.

“Precipitation forecast calls for 40 to 50 mm of rain this Saturday. Additional periods of thunderstorm activity is also expected to bring significant localized downpours in some areas. Many rural areas including fields and floodplains are saturated from the rainfall earlier this week. This has the potential for immediate run off into rivers and streams rapidly.”

Officials say if the forecast rainfall materializes, water levels will remain high over the weekend and into early next week.

“Drains and smaller watercourses in upstream areas may also experience localized flooding in some areas especially during rain events. Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks. Parents in particular are urged to keep their children away from floodplain areas,” St. Clair Region Conservation Authority officials said.
