Our family came from North Umberland, England in 1819. We have been here, our family, extended family on this particular farm where we are since the 1800’s.
Farming an interesting career and occupation. 7 days a week, 365 days a year for somebody and when I was younger that someone was pretty much me. We’ve been a team, not only because we are married but through our family and through our business in farming and obviously in my political career. She’s always supported me, stood beside me and encouraged me in it. Sometimes I need the person in front of me to slow me down and sometimes at the end of the day she’s the bit of the wind at my back.
Ill often get asked ” why do you do this?” or “what do you like about politics?”. I say ” Well, Its all about people. Its really about the people you deal with that are going to benefit from whatever legislation or project that goes forward.”
So if you ever loose sight, its about he people, its about the people around you, than I think you have lost the perspective of what politics is really about.
