Severe thunderstorm warning issued

wallaceburg clock storm

Update: At 10:30 P.M. EDT Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an east-west line of thunderstorms extending from southern Lake Michigan to extreme southwestern Ontario. They are moving south-southeastward. These thunderstorms are capable of producing torrential rain, very strong wind gusts, and nickel size hail.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Go indoors and move away from windows and skylights. Avoid areas of the building that could be affected by falling debris such as tree limbs. Avoid driving through water on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Original story: Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Chatham-Kent.

A significant, widespread severe weather situation is underway across part of Southern Ontario. Several clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms will continue to affect parts of the watch areas well into this evening ahead of a cold front. They will be capable of producing very strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Isolated brief tornadoes are also possible.

Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Stay away from all windows, skylights and doors.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
