Mrs. Verna Marion (Knox) McEvoy of Sarnia and formerly of Port Lambton passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Afton Park Place, in Sarnia, at the age of 96.
Beloved wife of the late Daniel Joseph McEvoy (2000) for 59 years.
Verna is survived by seven children, Margaret Anne McEvoy of Sarnia, Ellen Charron of Port Lambton, Patricia McEvoy of Sarnia, Robert McEvoy of Wallaceburg, Judy (Roger) Raymond of Wallaceburg, Joan (Gerald) English of Port Lambton, Kathleen (Don Lines) McEvoy of Tsawassen, B.C., a sister June (Clarence) Janes of Toronto, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Clarence Janes of Toronto, John & Virginia McEvoy of Michigan, Florence & Tom McEvoy of Port Lambton, Betty (Ted) Reek of Port Lambton and Pat & Millie McEvoy of Arizona.
Sadly missed by 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her children Marilyn Frances McEvoy (1969), Donna Joyce (Joe Hinnegan) (2007), her siblings John Albert Knox (1911), Harold Vincent Knox (1913), Phyllis Knox (1916), Douglas Percy Knox (1918), Phyllis (Raymond) Heath (2005), Lois (Kenneth) Campbell (1992), Ruth (Chuck) Cooney (2002), brothers-in-law Raymond Heath (1994), Kenneth Campbell (1992), Hilliard (Chuck) Cooney (1986), Thomas McEvoy (2003), Ernest Myers (1982), Ernest Green (1988), Ronald Bradd (1984), Edward (Ted) Reek (1999) and sisters-in-law Mary Catherine (John) McEvoy (1989), Catherine (McEvoy) Myers (2008), Agnes (McEvoy) Bradd (2009), Marie (McEvoy) Green (2012), her step-mother Myrtle (Wilson) (1992) and her parents Harper Knox (1988) and Florence Bird (1922).
Verna was born on April 5, 1919 in Stirling, Ontario. She was married on July 26, 1941 to Daniel McEvoy at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Dresden, Ontario and had been a resident in Port Lambton since about 1949.
Lifelong member of the Catholic Women’s League of Sacred Heart Parish, Port Lambton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from Sacred Heart Church in Port Lambton at 11 a.m. with Rr. Raju Allumpurath, Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Port Lambton.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Diabetes Association may be left at the funeral home.
As a living memorial, a tree will be planted in Nicholls Memorial Forest in Memory of Verna McEvoy.
