Four local “young guns”, including one from Dresden, have captured national and provincial gold in trap shooting.
The two most important trap shooting events for 2015 took place recently as the Canadian Amateur Trap Shooting Association Championships were held in Brandon, Manitoba (July 1-5) and the Provincial Championships in Hamilton, Ontario (July 31-Aug. 3.)
A group of 4 of our shooters participated in both events.
– Kristian Houle, 16, son of Kevin of Dresden from the Wasbash Sportsman Club
– Mitch Vandyk who is 13, son of Dawn Van Dyke of Chatham, from the Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club.
– Jacob Munn, 14, son of Kathryn Okolisan of Rodney, from the Wasbash Sportsman Club.
– Autumn Bergeron, 15, daughter of Jamie and Missy Bergeron of the Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club.
With financial assistance from the two clubs and many support of the adult Trap Shooters from the Glencoe Club, the young guns were able to attend and participate very well.
Here is a list of their accomplishments of the competition:
– Kristian Houle – CATA Championship winner of three events. Canadian Junior Champion and OPTA Championships winner of three events. Also the Provincial Junior Champion.
– Mitch Vandyk – Personal Best in all categories in both shoots
– Jacob Munn – Canadian Amateur Trap Shooting Associations Championships winner of 4 events. He is the Canadian Sub Junior Champion for 2015. Provincial Trap Shooting Association Championship winner of 5 events. Also the sub Junior Champion of that one.
– Autumn Bergeron – Best Personal in all events in both shoots. She shot her first 25 target straight at the CATA Championships. The OPTA Championships winner of the handicap event. 92/100 targets. Doubles runner up. High all around ‘D’ Class.
