Police are undergoing an extensive search for a missing Wallaceburg man in London

Const. Ken Steeves of the London Police Service said officers underwent a lengthy search last night for Frederick Sutherland, and have continued today.

The 68-year-old was last seen at approximately 12:55 a.m. on Monday, September 7 after leaving Victoria Hospital in London alone and before being discharged.

Steeves said officers searched the hospital grounds and the ground across the street at the Parkwood Institute.

“We stopped the search due to darkness,” Steeves said. “We started again today and we are still searching.”

Steeves said there is no indication that Sutherland is in this area.

“But we can’t exclude it as a possibility,” he said.

Steeves said his family and the police are concerned for him.

“He is due for some medications,” he said.

Sutherland is described as a white man, 5’10″, with a slim build and grey hair and a moustache.

He was last seen wearing light blue jeans, a blue plaid shirt, and tan coloured shoes.

Police say he had a ‘significant amount’ of medical dressing on his neck and his head was tilted to the right as he walked.

Steeves said the London Police are working in coordination with their Police Auxiliary in their search efforts, along with hospital security and other volunteers.

He said police are also working with the London Fire Department to search ponds on the Parkwood Institute property and they are utilizing the OPP helicopter for an aerial search as well.

Steeves said he did not know how long the search would last.

London Police are encouraging anyone who has seen him; believes they may have seen him; or knows of his whereabouts to call the London Police Service at 519-661-5670.
